NormandyTours
On this 11-day tour you will get a deeper understanding of Germany’s dark past and the birth and fall of the Nazi ideology. Starting in Nuremberg, we trace the political and economic reasons of Hitler’s rise to power, in a city where thousands of his followers gathered at the Nazi Party Rally Grounds and where the leaders faced justice in the post-war trials. In the museums of Munster, Laboe and Berlin we will introduce you to the land, aerial and naval elements of the German armed forces by seeing armoured vehicles, aircraft and a U-boat, offering a glimpse into the advanced technology of the Third Reich. We finish our journey with visits to major landmarks in Berlin with iconic pre-war, Nazi and Communist sites. We discover places where the Final Solution was decided and learn where Hitler eventually met his demise. We encourage you to experience history with us first hand at the places where some of the worst acts of humanity occurred and see how the future generations could and still can learn from these mistakes.
Passengers are greeted at the Munich International Airport and transferred to our hotel in Nuremberg. After you get to know your fellow passengers at the orientation dinner, the next two days we discover the city infamous for its former Nazi Party Rallies, carefully planned propaganda events and post-war trials indicting Nazi leaders in the Palace of Justice. Our walking tour brings us closer to the historical center, the one-time capital of the Holy Roman Empire. On our way to Hamburg, we stop at the Mittelbau-Dora Concentration Camp and its underground armaments tunnels where the Nazis produced V1 and V2 weapons during WWII.
We discover the best of Hamburg, the largest port city in Germany with its historical ports, cosmopolitan charm, and a series of World War II-related sites, such as the St. Nikolai Church, the Hamburg Harbor or one of the largest ever built flak towers. From here, we visit the impressive Tank Museum in Munster housing more than 150 tanks and armoured vehicles. We spend a day at Laboe where the German Naval Memorial offers a beautiful view at the Kieler Fjord and the German Submarine U-995 lets you explore the inside of an iconic war machine. As we travel to our final destination, the German capital of Berlin, we cannot miss the German-Russian Museum on the way where Wilhelm Keitel signed the unconditional surrender on May 8, 1945.
We end our tour in the extraordinary capital of Berlin, where the devastating war ended in Europe. We learn about the Final Solution to the Jewish Question at the House of the Wannsee Conference. By visiting the famous landmarks of the Reichstag, the Brandenburg Gate or the site of Hitler’s bunker we get a more in-depth analysis of the rise and fall of Hitler and his empire. We discover Berlin on a walking tour showing you famous Cold War sites such as Checkpoint Charlie and the Berlin Wall. We take a boat cruise on the river Havel to see all the beauty around this historic city. After saying goodbye the next morning, the passengers are transferred to Berlin's Brandenburg Airport for their return flights.
